What gets removed

Clean copies. Your originals stay unchanged.

Photos

EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comments, and embedded previews are left out of a new image made from the visible pixels.

JPG, PNG, WebP
Output
PNG, with orientation applied

PNG files may be larger. Color conversion can change wide-gamut or HDR images. HEIC and animated images are not supported.

Videos

Descriptive container tags, original track names, and MP4 dates are removed. Supported picture and audio streams are copied without re-encoding.

Input
MP4, MOV, WebM
Output
MP4 or WebM

Subtitles, chapters, and data tracks are omitted. Playback information and data inside encoded streams can remain.

Common questions

What is EXIF data?

EXIF is information stored inside a photo, such as camera settings, the date it was taken, and sometimes GPS coordinates. Photos can also carry XMP, IPTC, comments, thumbnails, and color profiles. This tool rebuilds the visible image into a fresh PNG so those source metadata blocks are not copied.

Will the quality or format change?

Photos are decoded by your browser and saved as PNG at their displayed dimensions, with orientation applied and transparency preserved. PNGs may be larger, and conversion to sRGB can change wide-gamut colors or HDR. Videos are copied without re-encoding their picture or audio. MOV becomes MP4; MP4 and WebM keep their container type. If a stream cannot be preserved, the file fails rather than silently losing that stream.

What is removed from videos?

The video file is rebuilt with no source descriptive tags, track names, attachments, chapters, subtitles, or data tracks. MP4 creation and modification date fields are cleared. Recognized video and audio streams are retained. Playback information such as codecs, dimensions, rotation, timing, and generic encoder or muxer information may remain. Data embedded inside compressed picture or audio streams is not inspected or removed.

Does removing metadata make a file anonymous?

No. Visible faces, text, landmarks, watermarks, and recorded voices remain. Video streams can contain embedded information beyond container tags. This is a practical file-metadata cleaner, not a forensic anonymization service. Review the actual picture and sound before sharing.

Which files can I use?

Still JPG, PNG, and WebP images up to 30 MB, 24 megapixels, and 8,192 pixels per side. MP4, MOV, and WebM videos up to 100 MB with supported codecs. H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9, and AV1 video and AAC, Opus, and MP3 audio are supported where their output container allows them. HEIC, GIF, AVIF, animated images, Vorbis/FLAC audio, and unsupported video streams are rejected. You can add 10 files, up to 250 MB per batch. Cleaned results are also limited to 250 MB per batch.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free to use, with no visitor account and no added watermark. Cleaned copies remain in this browser workspace until you remove them or close or refresh the page. Download the clean copies before leaving.

Why does a file show “No descriptive tags detected”?

Some files have already had common metadata removed. Inspection reports supported metadata categories, not every possible hidden field. You can still create a clean copy. Photo verification checks the fresh PNG’s chunks. Video verification checks supported descriptive tags, stream properties, track counts, and packet counts.
